Child headache free and happy
For a very young child headache discomfort can be hard to understand. Their health and happiness is a parent’s top priority and so you’ll want to see their headache soothed with fast, effective relief.
What causes a child headache?
When a child develops a cold or fever, a headache can often follow. This can be from congestion, or infection. Other causes include sinusitis, toothache and eyesight problems.
Usually headaches aren’t a sign of anything serious, but consult your doctor if you’re worried. And, if the headache is accompanied by a rash that doesn’t go away when pressed this could signal life-threatening meningitis. In this situation, seek urgent medical attention. Further information is available from The NZ Meningitis Foundation.
Symptoms of headaches in children
A child headache is normally caused by raised pressure in the skull. So if children have a headache you may find that their pain and symptoms get worse as they lie down. Other symptoms include being sick and in some cases vomiting in the morning.
How can you help relieve child headaches?
Giving your child pain relief can help ease their discomfort and treat their headache. Ibuprofen can help relieve any inflammation around the skull and is one of the key ingredients in Nurofen for Children. You can also help soothe headaches by letting them rest in a dark space and helping them go to sleep.
