The story of Nurofen.

A ground breaking story

The story begins with the discovery of ibuprofen, the active ingredient in Nurofen.

It all happened back in the 60’s when three scientists, led by Dr Adams from Boots Pharmaceuticals in London, set out to develop apain reliever that would be better tolerated than aspirin – themain pain reliever of the day.

What they invented wasibuprofen, a medication capable of reducing pain and inflammation across a range of conditions.

Ibuprofen: the active ingredient in nurofen

In 1969 ibuprofen was first made available to the public, but it was only availableon prescription. It wasn’t until 1983 when ibuprofen was launched as an over–the-counter medicine called Nurofen that it gained public recognition as an effective everyday pain-reliever.

The story continues

Just like the development of ibuprofen, Nurofen continues the push to find more ways to provide effective pain relief for New Zealanders.

This is reflected in the ever-increasing range of Nurofen products, like Nurofen Cold and Flu, and the development of ibuprofen formulations like Nurofen Zavance tablets and caplets that are absorbed up to twice as fast as standard Nurofen.
