The story of ibuprofen starts in 1953, with a team led by a talented young pharmacist named Dr Stewart Adams. It is a story of perseverance, a passion for science, and above all, a desire to improve people’s lives.
The Nurofen Story
In the 1950s, there was a desperate need for better medicines to manage the pain and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis. Aspirin was the standard of care, providing some degree of pain relief and anti-inflammatory action, but also had significant gastrointestinal side effects. Dr Adams set about discovering a more potent, safer alternative.
